The PM Plates is the food and beverage house of The PM Group, founded and led by Penny Mpanza. Our first project is MzansiSeoul, a South African-Korean restaurant where bulgogi meets the braai, opening in Sandton.
MzansiSeoul grew out of founder Penny Mpanza's own journey into Korean food and culture, and five years spent helping run a family Italian restaurant in the UK — brought home to Sandton.
Korean tabletop grilling at the centre of the room, marinades like bulgogi brought together with the spices of Mzansi.
A former multi-restaurant building in Sandton, closed since the start of COVID, being remodelled into MzansiSeoul's home.
A few things we already know about how MzansiSeoul will feel to sit down to — more will be added as the space and menu come together.
Grills set into the table itself, in the Korean tabletop-grilling tradition, at the centre of the meal rather than off in a kitchen.
Sides built for the table to share, the way Korean banchan works, carrying South African flavour alongside the grill.
Warm, unhurried service — the "ordinary" half of the concept carried through the room, not just onto the plate.
Inspired by the royal courts of the Joseon Dynasty, Korean royal cuisine (gungjung eumsik) is a celebration of the finest seasonal ingredients, refined techniques and artistic presentation. This is the high end of the MzansiSeoul table, made for the special occasion.

The everyday MzansiSeoul table, where Korean technique meets the flavours of Mzansi. Concept imagery for now; final plates will follow once the kitchen is ready.
